Insights Of An Artist's Journey
Hi Reader ๐๐ป
Welcome to another issue of Insights Of An Artist's Journey!
Every Tuesday, I send you resources and bits of insights that I find useful to help you speed up your music production journey ๐
Here are today's topics:
๐ The best piece of gear I ever bought
๐คซ The secret to "stand out" online
๐ฅ Feeling stuck in your music career? Try this!
๐ฐ Why I don't make money from royalties
๐ฌ Poll: Is playing piano a necessary skill to be a good producer?
Let's jump in!
๐ The best piece of gear I ever bought
When I first started music production in January 2021, I was using an old laptop.
Needless to say that it was not holding well when I was having more than 15 tracks in my DAW or was recording a tutorial at the same time.
Plus, the audio quality wasn't crazy.
So I decided to buy my first piece of gear: the Scarlett 2i2 3rd Gen audio interface by Focusrite.
..Instantly, it helped me to:
โ Output a better quality audio from my DAW
โ Handle bigger projects without my CPU dying
I honestly believe this is one of the first piece of gear every producer should buy!
Keyboards, speakers etc, can come later ๐
P.S: I now have the 4th Gen as the team at Focusrite sent me the update and I'm thrilled with it! It's even better as it now has Loopback included, more dynamic range, Auto Gain and many more features!
๐คซ The secret to "stand out" online
I saw this post recently on Instagram:
Being "technically" talented isn't the secret. The secret is saying something different.
I couldn't agree more!
If you agree with everyone, follow the mass, and just recreate what everyone else says or do... you will never stand out.
But if you have strong POV (point of view), this is how you can:
Because yet another boring music production tutorial that has already been done 1,000 times won't get me anywhere...
You could easily apply that for your own music career ๐
๐ฅ Feeling stuck in your music career? Try this!
One of my accountability buddy, Robert, made a video on:
why everyone needs an accountability group
how helpful it is
how to find people
and how to run such a group
It is filled with gems that will actually be helpful for your music growth so I highly recommend you to give it a watch if that's a topic that interests you ๐
๐ฌ Poll: Is playing piano a necessary skill to be a good producer?
We are always looking for ways to improve our music production skills.
One of my favourite ways to do so is through challenges and experiences while documenting it on my YouTube Channel, and then reporting it to you.
With that in mind, I started a 90-Days Challenge where I learn piano (with an actual teacher), to see if it will help me to produce better songs (especially chord progressions and melodies).
So, what do you think?
Is playing piano a necessary skill to be a good/better producer? ๐น
P.S: I will include the results of this poll in the YouTube video so if you have any thoughts about it, feel free to reply to this email and you will potentially appear in the video ๐
โ
๐ That's it for today! If you have any questions about anything, don't hesitate to reply to this email and I will do my best to help you out!
